Somehow missed the details of your dad's adventure first time here. Telling someone in you mom's position that she is overreacting is a real dick move, no matter who they are. I had a similar experience last month, and when the EMTs asked P what hospital to take me to, she said "Isn't X hospital the closest?" They said "yes, but they will just send them on to the real hospital". Those folks are worth listening to, they see it all.
I hope it turns out to be something easily treatable. You and yours are damn sure off to a rough start. All I can offer is moral support, but you have that. *hugs*
