Well either is as 'simple' as the other, though given IJ and DW have less users on it, your naming problem could be less of a problem.

I'm more concerned about the user-friendly over the names, honestly - simply because, as they put it, they're "old timers" using this new-fangled Internet-thing. :D

but the email threads are confusing all of them, and we were thinking that a group would be better for keeping track of things...

But thank you for letting me know! :D Also: *smooch and snugs*

Neither is more complicated than the other, they just look a bit different and are on the same level as LJ.

I'm more used to LJ, but just starting out, they'd all be the same.

the trick would be figuring out the easiest way for them to get the coding right for images -- email keeps breaking because none of them know how to resize a picture... O.o

Looked at blogspot, but it took FAR too long to figure out how to edit a post, and if I can't figure it out, these folks'll never get it. -- I don't know how much help I'll be because I find all the tasks much better labeled at blogspot, and still have to resort to random clicking just to see my LiveJournal like the rest of the world does. :p (Oh it's under my username, see I've always clicked on that to get to an account page at other sites. Silly me taking so long looking for a link called "read journal." *eye roll*)

I've never used blogspot with a group (though it is possible), but LiveJournal does make it easy to combine different posts into one community, so that's a pro point. It's learning curve isn't that bad. Never played with InsaneJournal or Dreamwidth.

If all else fails, you could take a poll and see what family members have already signed up for. If the majority already have accounts in LiveJournal, that could be the deciding factor.

Now if only the cubicle would stop spinning.

They have nothing but email (and one has a Facebook).

I made a few test posts, with photos, etc., but couldn't, for the LIFE of me, find the link to edit the post.

And, at least with LJ, I could respond to a post with an image in the comment, which I couldn't figure out how to do on blogspot/blogger

Maybe I'll log in again and give it another look with a computer that I don't want to take a sledgehammer to..

Okay, it also depends on where you are looking at. In the dashboard pages, "edit post" is labeled right next to the title of the post. If you're looking at the blog page and you're logged in, they add a graphic link of a pencil at the bottom of the post to take you back to the entry box for it.

It's been so long I can't remember why they decided an image was better than a word there. The screwdriver and wrench graphic takes you to the layout section and the envelope is to email the post.

Comments: blogspot only allows moderation. You can delete them, but you can't change what you typed.

LJ is the same way with the comments, but when I tried to comment with an image, it failed. And replying with the URL didn't come up as a link, either

I dunno, I don't tend to use my other journals anymore. I might have even forgotten my login info. xD

I only had them before I got on LJ...though DW was when everybody was all OMG LJ IS EVIL MUST GO ONTO DW (which is kind of all the time, but whatever).

All my friends are on LJ so it's kind of pointless for me to post on other journals. But I do still have them. I think they're even linked on my LJ.

But they're not really hard to use, they're similar to LJ so I suppose it's just more of a "what features do they offer" type thing. I know one of the journals out there (greatest journal maybe?) lets you have tons of userpics for free compared to LJ's userpic thing.

I'm not sure though, since I haven't logged onto IJ or DW in a while so I dunno how much they've changed over the years. Maybe they're different from LJ now, maybe they're still the same.

Also LOL@cousin's name. Gotta love that. You'll think of something for the username, I'd add creative to your ten words that describe you. :P

Yeah, I'll be lucky to explain the "POST" button to them, at this point... O.o

But, yes.. something'll come to me.

At least, the advantage to LJ for me is that I know what I'm doing, so I know how to fix things, etc.

All else, it won't work and they'll go back to email and confusing the hell out of each other. ;)

LOL gotta love that. I feel like that around my parents sometimes...I usually think my mom's pretty good with computers until she asks me a question that has me headdesking because with the job she has, how does she not know the answer? Hehe.
