it's well written and poetic, but it's not a story so much as a passage in a story. For this to work as an analogy for Sherlock's longing, maybe his desire for a relationship, with Watson or someone else (remember its Ms. Adler who is Sherlock's equal according to AC Doyle) and how he sees himself in relationship to others we need a set up for this passage which gives us the reason for Sherlock to wax on as you have him do.

BTW, in the first episode Sherlock admits his basic lack of knowledge of the Universe, stars etc.

But what lovely language skills you have, my dear ;)

This was actually Moriarty talking to Sherlock, so I would hope that the dynamic between the both of them would be more aligned with Moriarty. =)
