Ouch...

Well, training for my 1/2 marathon has been pretty much non-existant for the last 10 days. I have been so busy with work that I havent made time for it. Bad thing, since its in a few weeks. I am in Taiwan right now visiting my dad for his 60th birthday. I tried training at the gym one day here. I was only able to run 9 miles before my body said "ok ( Read more... )

Ack! Sounds like fun!

I've seen some of the asian type massage style... they do look interesting.

Yer up to 9 miles... not too bad.. I mean, you only have to go 13 :-) Worse case, you walk/run the last few just to keep your legs moving and finish.

I ran this morning for 20 minutes. Very dry out there... after 3 minutes my mouth felt like chalk...

Well, if you are talking about in Orange county, those "asian style" might be a little different than the ones Im talking about. LOL. Shiatsu massage is pretty good, you feel linda beat up afterwards. The one where the ladies walk on your back is pretty good too. I also like Thai massage. Thats where they basically wrap your body into their body and pull your body apart like wrestling moves. not relaxing at all, but makes you feel like new the next day.

This 9 mile run wasnt too bad. I can pretty much crank out 9 miles now without too much drama. Its amazing that I went from struggling with 3 miles to now upwards of 10.5 (my longest)in only 4-6 weeks. I actually have been tracking my runs with my Ipod Nano/Nike Plus. Its a great training and motivation device.

If your mouth is dry after only 3 minutes, you might want to drink a glass of water 20-30 mins before your run. :)

I drank about half of a small bottle of water before heading out today.. there was no humidity inland this morning. It was like breathing in hot air in the desert, just not too hot.

I've been looking into the Nano/Nike deal... not badly priced. Just have to borrow the wife's Nano to hook it up. I ran with my regular ipod this morning, but after about 10 minutes, the buffer ran out, and stopped. Probably not the best for running.

Do you know if the Nike deal will fit into other shoes besides Nike? I'm running in a pair of Asics now, that I really like.

Oh and the OC asian style, completely different! :-) There used to be one in Fullerton I knew of.. the sign outside said "Accupressure", but from what I heard about the place... your back wasn't the only thing that got rubbed out!

I just bought a pair of Mizuno running shoes and that nike $29 dollar sensor. I absolutely love it. I bought a big strap of velcro which I put on the inside of the tongue of my sneaker. The sensor velcros to the top of the tongue with the laces over it. Works GREAT. I have run with it on the track to see if it was accurate. After 1 mile (4 laps, it said I did something like 1.04- so close enough. When I run on the treadmill, its usually shy what the treadmill indicates. Moreso if I have it cranked at 10.

My wife and I are massage nuts. We love them!As far as some of the Asian places. I like them because they arent shy about massages. They feel a knot in your ass, and work it out! LOL. We have been going to Massage Envy in Costa Mesa a lot recently. Can't beat a $39 dollar/ hr massage! (Besides... we are opening a couple clinics soon)

No... on the contrary. Its WONDERFUL. Its amazing how eastern philosphies and western differ. They really are in tuned with your body. They find knots in your body and work them out. Its not about being ticklish. If someone touches you gently, then you are tickled. If you get grabbed and kneaded with a very firm grip and are in pain, trust me, being tickled is the furthest from your mind. :P

I love that aussie community. Not too many people post often, but its cute to see people who love their quirky dogs as much as I do. I have had lots of dogs inmy life, but none are quite as personable and intuitive as our aussies ( ... )
