Well, training for my 1/2 marathon has been pretty much non-existant for the last 10 days. I have been so busy with work that I havent made time for it. Bad thing, since its in a few weeks. I am in Taiwan right now visiting my dad for his 60th birthday. I tried training at the gym one day here. I was only able to run 9 miles before my body said "ok, thats it", and proceeded to shoot pain throughout my legs.
I decided that rather train again the next day, I walked around and found this reflexology/ massage place. Now if you have never had asian reflexology, then you HAVE to get it. Basically, its a foot massage. Not the soft gental soothing type you get in a swedish massage, but a hard, extremely painful, torturous type of feeling that makes grown men scream out like 8 year old girls. It hurts so badly that I litterally come out of it sweating. I got that and then a hour massage.
This guy comes out dressed in a white kung fu outfit and asks me if I am ready. What was it like? Basically, for an hour I got beat up while I lied there, I was put in various wrestling holds to strech me out, and also pounded on by quick, calculated blows to my spine and legs. At one point he got behind me and litterally had me in some sort of wrestling/cirque du soliel move where he was lying on his back, with his feet under my back, while I hung in mid air like a limp noodle. I was waiting for applause from an audience when he put me down.
Thing is, after a beating like that, I was feeling pretty good. I wish there were more asian type massage places like this where I live. Massage therapist really understand the way the body works and really heal you. Granted, I still love the massage I get in the US, but it just doesnt compare.
