Sad news: the afterlife just became a much scarier place...

Very sad news for anyone who loves horror, fantasy, and/or SF: Forry Ackerman, the Father of Modern Fandom, just died.

I enjoyed many an issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland in my youth. Thanks for that, Forry, and goodbye.

I saw him once at a sci-fi convention in San Francisco in the '70s. He was quite enthusiastic and it was contagious. There was a showing of METROPOLIS and he seemed quite taken with robot Maria.

He will be greatly missed, but let's remember he was able to devote his life to what he loved. He was a lucky man.

Ah too bad. I read more than a few issues of Famous Monsters of Filmland myself. I didn't know he helped launch Ray Bradbury's career.

Forrest Ackerman was a great advocate of the planned international language Esperanto.
