More Halloween fun with Jack Chick!

Oct 22, 2008 11:46

Here ol' Jacko gives us yet another masterpiece with First Bite. Will a bloodsucking vampire swill the gore of the innocent, or will he get the message? What do YOU think?

And a rather more positive and genuinely fun site for Christians who love Halloween and horror: Christian Halloween Fan.

Enjoy!

From teh Chick Publications website, "Soul winners worldwide give out Chick tracts because people who read them get saved..."

Ugh. Perhaps that is because the only folks reading them are people who are already Christians, or seekers. I'd say that anyone who comes to Christ after reading those does so in spite of reading it, not because of it.

Those things make me so mad. They are horribly written, not at all clever, and full of bad theology and doctrine. I'd be embarrassed to pass them out, and feel a sense of shame for folks I meet who do.

But then, I hate tracks in general. Nothing beats genuine relationship and meaningful discussion for "winning souls" for the Kingdom. Chick Tracks, in my experience, only inspire mockery-- from both believers, and unbelievers alike.

Note the term "Soul Winners"... lavendergem October 23 2008, 00:04:51 UTC
"Saving Souls" -- I thought the Christian afterlife was Resurrection of the Body in a New Heavens and New Earth (a repaired and perfected cosmos, the ultimate tikkun olam), not "souls" floating around some sort of Fluffy Cloud Heaven.

Classic Jewish thought didn't make any distinction between body and soul -- they were both part of "You", and without either, you were incomplete. Otherwise, why a Resurrection instead of what's effectively a Hades?

Try reading the second link, that should be more to your liking.

The second link needs a .com suffix.

And I had a problem going down the site; I was reading the second detailed essay on the page when my browser (IE) went nuts, slowing to the point even TaskManager (the emergency kickout) took ten minutes to work.

I fixed it. Check out the essays, they're amazing.

Interestingly enough First Bite came out months ago. The tract was also obviously written with a humorous tone and not meant to be taken as some dark, dire warning like some of the others.

Yet again Chick tracts generally do not freak me out or anything.

It's not that Chick freaks me out, it's that I think much of his stuff is unintentionally hilarious. At least, I think it's unintentional.

The Christian Halloween Fan site link is missing the .com on the end. Should be http://www.ChristianHalloweenFan.com .

Thanks!

That is probably the silliest Chick tract I've ever read. I believe I might have to make an LJ icon out of that shrugging devil at the end.

Also: Thank you so much for the link to Christian Halloween Fan. I can tell I'm going to like that site.

I bet you'll like the essay about classic Universal and Hammer horror versus modern 'gorno'. I know I do.

I hope you let me know what you think of it. I really would appreciate hearing what you'd have to say about the essay.
