I suppose they couldn't have told people this was coming for fear that people would create a hoard of free accounts. But yes, I wish they'd call it for what it is. It just seems to me that if they were less concerned with competing with Facebook and the like with all the extra features and more concerned with what LJ users want, they would do well enough in their niche.
