So, I'm laying on the sofa reading a book full of essays on the writing of Neil Gaiman.

As some of you know, I have a piano in my living room. My son, who just turned one a few weeks ago, crawls up on the piano stool and starts plunking away randomly on the keys.

By this time, he understands a lot of language (I totally dig Baby Signs, I've seen it work) and you've presumably played him a lot of music. Just like the 7-point plot, we learn what music is "supposed" to sound like, very early. So it could be.

Hey Congratulations!!!!!!! Sorry we couldn't make it... bankruptcy and stuff got in the way :( Life sorta sucks that way. We REALLY wanted to come.

All I have to say is that if he's hearing the sounds he's making and it sounds pleasing enough to his ear to continue, you should encourage the trend. Daddy's musical; no reason baby shouldn't be. Don't be Mozart's Father, but don't ignore it either. Sit at the piano with him and imitate what he plays (i.e., play back to him what he played); he may start imitating what you play--I've seen it with other people's kids. Can't hurt to try.
