Had a lovely extended weekend. It started out a bit rough - I was really down on myself for reasons that weren't initially clear, but that God and good people made transparent to me by the end. Very thankful for the way I woke up this morning - feeling fresh, energized, and hopeful again

Veronica Mars is such an excellent, smart show - your friends have taste! By this point, I've seen all of S2, and there were so many different plot threads to follow I hardly feel like I digested half of it. It's a noir-ish detective show masquerading as a high school drama, really. Each season is one big "whodunnit". Great social deconstruction of the lifestyle of the rich and famous, among other things.

Yeah, it's important to remember that characters are not meant to be real people, they're always an idealized form of different aspects of oursleves - or else generalizations of certain personality types we encounter in day-to-day life. They may be instantly recognizable and relatable, but they're still larger than life in that they serve a specific dramatic purpose. (And God only knows what dramatic purpose I'm supposed to serve! Haha

You had me at "noir-ish detective show masquerading as a high school drama". I was planning on getting around to it eventually anyway, but your description definitely pushed it up on my priority list.

I'm with you on the escapism, totally, and I'm ashamed to say how long I stared at the word, "romcoms", completely baffled, before I figured out what it meant. Haha I was about to Google it!
