Well, the latter of part of the day is just like the start - utterly craptastic.  Thanks LJ, for screwing up once again, and for not saving anything.

I had spent nearly an hour writing a reply to a friend's posting; Carefully thinking about what I was saying, carefully editing and sculpting it...  But when I hit

When your 'improvements' put more whitespace around things, you should be careful if that whitespace is really what users want. I already have a ton of wasted screen space.

I wonder if people only test in full-screen?

I have to wonder if they really test it at all. It's horrible, to say the least. I haven't seen a single positive comment on the new design yet. Here's hoping that they stop and listen to their customers, or this place is going to get even more deserted. :/

I usually take that as a sign that most of what I said didn't need to be said for some reason, and trim it down by half when reposting.

Well, it was a meme, and a goodly chunk of it was the questions, which I bolded before my answers. So yeah, if I hadn't done that it would have gone through just fine. I could have divided it into two parts, had I known LJ was going to gripe about it. Ah well... :/

Your LJ reports are the only worthwhile thing on the internet. I don't comment because you have too much to do already and I don't want to bother you. I try to keep in touch by reading Face Book, but it is a total waste of time. A 10 minute visit on Skype would be a lot more rewarding, anyway. Trying to relate to a computer monitor is just not my thing. BTW, congratulations on renting your first U-Haul. Keep it up.

You flatter me! (keep it up, please!) :)

Comments from friends are never a bother, so no worries there. FaceBook CAN be a great time-waster, but it can also be a way to keep in touch with folks when everything else fails. I've just put two old friends back in contact with each other by negotiating a contact through FB. Makes me feel good to be able to do that. :)

Relating to a computer monitor is something that's more akin to my generation, I think. It's funny, I was just talking to Miami about that: Many of my online friends are also real-world friends (that is, we've met in person on multiple occasions), but we all started out in the old BBS systems like GEnie. We've gone from GEnie to private mailing lists to Yahoo Groups to Online chat rooms to LiveJournal to Facebook... The medium changes, but the gist of it stays the same.

Then we have the newest generation, who has never known a world without the Internet, or Facebook, or social-media in general. I wonder what sort of things their kids are going to take for ( ... )
