I'm not sure if there's an English equivalent, but in Danish we have a saying that, "need teaches naked woman to weave." Basically there is no better teacher than necessity, so I'm sure if the power suddenly went out and the Teenager was prevented from playing X-Box, watching TV or however he spends his time, and the heat in the house started dropping due to no heating turning on, he'd remember quickly how to get the power back.

English has an equivalent: "Necessity is the mother of invention".

Agreed.

I totally volunteer to be the pony that brings everypony working out in the snow hot cider and cocoa with candy canes in.

Around here, eeryone is wondering 'What winter?'. We had NOTHING. A couple days of frost, some minor showers, but beyond that, nothing up until March. We are finally getting much-needed rain, and the ski resorts are excited by the heavy snows they're getting. For a while, they were shutting down on the weekdays, due to lack of snow, and using snow machines on full-blast for the weekends.
