You might want to look into getting a Ford Ranger. I have an '04 with a 4.0l v6, and even when we had the 3' snowfall down here last year, that thing never got stuck.

Good snow tires on all four wheels helps a lot too.

It's actually the Ranger that I've been looking at the most. I've always been a fan of the Ford product line; I have two Bronco-IIs, though both of them are in various needs of repair, and I know the Ranger and the Bronco-II were built on the same chassis. My old Bronco-II, with manually-locking hubs, never got stuck either. It might slow down a little, but it never got stuck. Unfortunately, it's in bad need of a total engine rebuild, otherwise I'd be driving it now. All of our vehicles have true winter tires, but out here, without 4x4 the tires alone aren't enough.

When you feel bummed about the weight, take a look at yourself and measure OTHER things - do you see more muscle definition? Do you FEEL better physically? Do your clothes feel looser, even slightly? I haven't lost a lot (and gained it back during the 27 days I was more or less forced to rest), but I feel MUCH MUCH better and have noticed muscles and the need for a belt.

Right now, I just ache all over... My clothes were a lot looser earlier, now they're just somewhat looser. The main thing I'm doing these days when I feel bummed is making sure that I don't go after more food as a comfort thing, which is a drastic mistake that so many overweight people make.

I wish this weight gain was muscle-mass, but I know it's mostly "munchies-gone-bad"... It's totally unfair that something as delicious as mixed nuts has 330 calories in a tiny 1/3 cup serving. That's not even enough to fill my palm, let alone satisfy any craving. %)

Well it's also a positive thing to be getting into eating healthy snacks instead of unhealthy ones, so that's still a plus. Plus your body WOULD need the extra protein for building muscle after all the shoveling you've been doing.

Your cravings can tell you that you need a certain nutrient - if you crave meats/nuts, you need protein. If you crave Cheesy Poofs, you may actually be craving calcium, or salt...or both (full spectrum mineral salt should be used instead of table). Chocolate - magnesium. And so on. You can use that information to buy needed vitamins and supplements that will help fight the cravings.

I know when I'm low on magnesium by crazy-making cravings for chocolate and cashews (which also have magnesium), so I have a big bottle of magnesium caplets for those times...when I don't give in and buy chocolate or cashews!

True that. I've found that taking multivitamins *really* cuts down on random cravings. A good '100%' multi will help a lot, and even the 'one-a-day' with 25% will perk things up considerably.

Don't go for the 'super-multi' ones, with like 5000% of your RDA of Zinc, etc. Your body won't asorb more than 100% or so, resulting in you paying extra money to have really expensive urine.

Also remember, your muscles are UNDER the fat layer, so it's entirely possible you *are* getting some extra mass back in a healthy manner, but it's just not noticable yet. Keep at it!

Speaking of weight loss, you should see Tugrik. He's finally resorted to gastric bypass surgery, and has lost a LOT of weight. As in, more than YOU weigh. He's still got a ways to go, but it's frightening how fast he's slimmed down.
