Childhood Memories

Dec 08, 2010 09:34

One thing that I really enjoy is looking through old cataloges; the waves of nostalgia bring me a lot of pleasure.  Ones from my own childhood bring back the strongest feelings of course, but I also love looking at old cataloges from before my time.  Late last summer, I scored a couple of boxes of old cataloges at an auction; there are ( Read more... )

Aw nuts! But it does help to know that it started about 76 then. I would be about - 11 years old. I've been searching still, now on a toy collecting site, that may help. Will keep everyone in touch here.

Thanks for the help!

It's definitely the Porsche Le Man's 917-10.

Heh! That caught my eye first too :) From a distance, it's Mark Donohue's 917-10 in L&M Tobacco livery. Close up, it's a bit more generic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wishbook/95603500/sizes/o/in/set-72057594059350688/

It seems to be this one from Matchbox: http://www.breithaupts.com/totc375.htm

I love the old catalogs! It was so much fun to clip things out and carry them around in hope that Santa would bring them. Did you see that the Sears wish books are online? They go back aways too...but I'm surprised to hear that the old catalogs survived. They always seemed to be printed on the most delicate of paper :-)

They are? WHERE?! :) The 2006 Wish-Book was relased in a CD-ROM format as well as the printed version, but I've never seen a CD release before or since.

Ahh, I remember this site! I thought I had it bookmarked, but either I didn't, or it's filed somewhere else. I wish Sears would offer a CD/DVD-Rom based collection of all their old cataloges... :)

Ah.. Catalogs.. My mother LOVED catalog shopping. She would array about a dozen or so major brands about her and spend hours calling and ordering. I used to love it, because the Sears store where we picked up was right next to a Foster's Freeze.

I consider it one of the great tragedies of our time that she did not live long enough to see internet retailing.
