Cold weather? Okay, time for a boiler breakdown!

     The problem with heating system failures, is that you're not likely to notice them until you need heat.

The last few days have been fairly warm, so there's been no call for heat from the system.  Yesterday though, the temperature dropped and last night it actually went below freezing again.  This morning, the house seemed rather chilly,

There should also be a high temperature shut-off thingy, too. On our old water heater, it was a thermocouple with a temperature probe inside it that could not be tested. This may have failed, but I'll never know because it was the thermometer/gas control unit that had failed. Alas.

We have backup electric registers, but those and the fireplace are currently non-functional.

Yes, there are a couple of other safety shut-down devices, but neither of those were the issue. I did eventually figure out what the problem is, as you'll see in the next posting. Read on, True Believers! %)
