     The problem with heating system failures, is that you're not likely to notice them until you need heat.

There should also be a high temperature shut-off thingy, too. On our old water heater, it was a thermocouple with a temperature probe inside it that could not be tested. This may have failed, but I'll never know because it was the thermometer/gas control unit that had failed. Alas.

We have backup electric registers, but those and the fireplace are currently non-functional.

Yes, there are a couple of other safety shut-down devices, but neither of those were the issue. I did eventually figure out what the problem is, as you'll see in the next posting. Read on, True Believers! %)
