Having torn out all of the carpets from the farm house, we're going to replace them with hardwood flooring.  After searching several places, we finally found a product that we liked at The Home Depot.  Even better, they were having a promotion  - "receive up to a $400 gift card with your purchase..."  Fine and dandy, so with some amount of ( Read more... )

...and then the actual rebate check takes 4 to 6 months, or longer, to appear in your mailbox. If it ever does at all.

You're both correct, unfortunately. That's a big part of why I despise mail-in rebates, you KNOW it's a scam on the part of the company, hoping that if nothing else you'll simply FORGET to mail the blasted form in. Personally, I think there ought to be a law against these things - give the rebate immediately in the store, and nevermind these sneaky and underhanded attempts to screw the customer.

For what it's worth, I spent 4.5 years driving for Public Transit, so I know from first-hand experience what it's like being in the front-lines of the service industry. Telephone support is nothing compared to physically being there where you can actually be assaulted if the customer is PO'd enough.
