Two somewhat related (through my bad luck) stories:

1. Saturday night me and a bunch of sweet folks drove out to Grand Rapids to see Les Miserables. It was fantabulous and amazing and everything I could've hoped for and more. My joy would be short-lived that evening, as would be a furry woodland creature

That's so unbelievably sad. I can't believe it took five shots to finally end her pain. They couldn't just shoot the head and be done with it? :( I'm sorry you had to experience that.

i think they tried but she was moving around a lot, and even after they're shot in the head they twitch for a few seconds (gross, sorry) so i think they just wanted to be sure...

Yeah, but Leslie, you did the right thing. Either the deer would have continued to suffer for hours and hours like you said, or they could have made it stop hurting. Yeah, it's shitty that they took five shots at it.

People are just so busy going from place to place, that no one cares about a deer. They probably saw it and assumed what you did at first, it was just chilling at the side of the road.

But again, you had to do something, and you did. A story like that just never has a happy ending.

At least you did something about it, and the deer's no longer suffering.

it's so great that you called about the deer. i'm sure no one else would have thought about it... i don't know if I even would have taken the time to do it. you did the right thing...

and that poor raccoon, well... just consider it survival of the fittest. One day, the only ones left will be the ones that know how to look both ways ;)
