Flip flops for horses!

I think I posted earlier about my horse getting glue on shoes put on.

Now he has graduated to another shoe, which I had never heard of before the new farrier introduced them to Alph.
They are "flip flops", with only half a horse shoe and a pad that covers the heel but is not attached in the back, so it flips back and forth as he moves.

Very interesting, and thank you for sharing! Do you clean out under the pad when picking his feet? I can just see that getting gross in muddy conditions.

Actually, I rarely have to clean underneath.
He is turned out daily and that video was taken straight from his stall without me picking anything out first.

Obviously I check to make sure, but rarely do I have to actually do anything.

The rubber lip is much more solid than I visualized. It's very neat the things people come up with to help a specific problem!

Ozzy grew up in these. They're very popular at the standardbred tracks. Very good for horses who like to grab their fronts. Cool to see them used in the riding horse world.

Huuuuhhh. I'd never seen anything like this, and was going to ask meup about them. Sounds like they might be a good idea for my own tender-footed shoe-puller.

They're a pretty cool solution and it takes a really talented horse to pull them.

do they really not get pulled off? I feel like they could still rip that rubber part off..

They CAN get pulled off, but the rubber is pretty tough. Usually the horse steps on himself and releases before the shoe gets sprung. Bell boots are still a good idea.

Yeah... I do not miss bell boots. Haha. Thankfully all my horses go barefoot these days.
