Seconding the donut pillow. I think you can get them at any pharmacy for pretty cheap. And pick up some heavy-duty Ibuprofen while you're there, for sure.

Donut, didn't think of that one (*wonders if one can be fitted to a saddle*), I had to ride my next horse with my hand on the cantle for the whole hour long hack.

Got my mini hot water bottle all ready to go, and I've got a supply of Difene and Ponstan for just such occasions

yeah, there is a reason why there are helmets... i know lot's of people who unfortunatelly think that nothing can happen to them... i never ride without one

i also have a few cute pics where a dog leads a horse

My last trainer never EVER wore a hat, not once. Her idea of wearing a helmet was a strapless hunt cap, even for breakers, that freaked me out!

I broke my coccyx completely off and splintered my tail bone in a really bad snowboarding accident... I even managed to give myself a concussion through my helmet. Let me tell you right now, there is not much you can do. I couldn't get comfortable for a few weeks, but it goes away after a while. If it gets really bad, you can take an anti-inflammatory. I had to go to school and work with my injuries or else I would have been on a serious pain med, but I was taking ~1000 milligram tablets of ibuprofen. It was doctor prescribed, but I have taken a high dose of OTC ibuprofen and been fine. Just take it on a full stomach.

OW! that sounds horrible!

I've managed to land on my tailbone many many many times so far in my life, so far I've only ever bruised it badly, but its pretty much permenatly damaged so that I can't sit on it at all ever for longer than 5 minutes without a lot of pain, I don't think this latest bruising has helped that much. And I've just been sitting on a train for two hours, so I'm not feeling so good right now! I've a day off tomorrow so I should be fine for work anyway, just might forgo riding that horse again for a bit! (Haveta say though, I was so so so tempted to get straight back on him, but I couldn't really walk so I thought better of it)

Did you ever heal again properly or is it still affecting you?

I'm glad you were wearing your helmet, too. The unfortunate thing is that so many people who don't or infrequently wear helmets don't realize they really, really should until its either too late for them or too late for a friend or something similar. I don't understand why people don't wear helmets all of the time - I'm assuming its because they feel they know the horse/the area well enough but any horse can throw anyone at any time, and wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?

The dog leading the horses is such a cute picture! :)

I got kinda lax about my helmet, partly because I know my horse well, but mostly cause I just hate wearing them! Its so uncomfortable and sweaty and gross, but now I'd rather that than missing part of my skull!

Winston is totally the best dog in the world, I've got him giving hugs now, and I'm totally going to teach him to rugby tackle because it'd be awesome!

I will be replacing it, as soon as I have the money (It was another thought that went through my head, 'crap now I need another 140 euro hat! why do I used my good hat for day to day use, doh!'), I've got my old hated skull cap around somewhere that hasn't been in any major falls that I can use for now.

Ah yes I was wondering if anyone would call me out on that, its not done up, I've got it clipped behind my head. I don't like the feeling of the chin strap, so when I'm between horses I don't take off my hat (Putting sweaty hats back on *shudder* ewwww), I just clip the strap behind my head, and the odd time I forget to do it back up! (Not any more!!). My hat fits extremly well though, it stays on even when I'm hanging upside down!

I wasn't trying to make an excuse, like I said I've been known to be lax about helmet in the past, this picture was taken awhile ago.

Will have a look at that, its a pretty common (Champion) helmet so its a possibility
