interview

I am going for a second interview tomorrow at a farm that will include handling, lunging, teaching, and riding. This interview is merely to see what level I am at so that they can figure out what I am worth to pay. Obviously, I want to do well so that I can get paid more. Plus, if they do not accept what I ask, I cannot work there because my ( Read more... )

If it were me, I'd be very up front about it: "I've learned a couple of different methods of hooking up the longe line - way (A) and way (B). I'm comfortable with both, but I wanted to know what you prefer ( ... )

thanks for the tips! re: snaking, that is exactly what I do, and I like it that way, but I know it drives some people nuts.

Having worked at various upper level barns across the US, I agree with you that each place seems to have it's own way... While you may feel a little silly asking, I find it's easiest to just flat out ask which way they prefer the line to be attached to the horse. Some folks I've worked for swear to run it through the inside bit ring, over the head, to the outside bit ring (how I was originally taught), at the German Dressage barn, they just had me clip it to the inner bit ring since everything I longed there was so steady in the contact... Some places have had me loop the line through both rings under the chin, and attach the line back to itself...

It's never wrong to ask how they do things.

I think I missed the point and I made a million comments!
echoing everybody else, I would ask how they would prefer attach the line :)

ive found that barn people have a huge boner for being asked how they would like to do things. to them, it doesnt seem to make you look stupid, it just makes you look very attentive and willing to please.

besides, *their* way is probably the right way, lol

Or a slightly different way of asking would be to ask how the horse is used to being lunged, may make you seem a bit more attentive to the horse, and you feeling less silly?

good luck!!
