people are so catty sometimes! If it's any consolation, I've taken care of a few suspensory injuries--all of varying degrees--and all of the horses were rideable after treatment. Listen to your vet and nod your head when you speak to someone who "knows everything." Not worth the fight.

This chick is also one of the most technophobic people I've ever met. I can't convince her that the reading I did on the Net about suspensory injuries are just as valid as the ones she's read on paper. She believes that the Internet is evil and there's nothing true on it.

Go figure.

I understand your pain. I'm at a very small barn with ONE other boarder besides me, and of course that boarder and I don't get along. She constantly harasses me about how I should care for my horse even though she knows NOTHING of us.

I'm sure Dawn will be fine - it sounds like you are doing everything right! My horse is injured right now too (popped splint from a kick that is super inflamed) and having a nasty/annoying boarder to deal with on TOP of horse-injury stress is the worst.

I'm pretty sensitive to start with, and hubby is very non-confrontational. So instead either of us telling her to STFU, we've both kind of let her yammer on and on. Of course, hubby's able to block her BS out and not let it get to him. Me, I feel like a horrible horse-mum.

Although it should tell me something that the last barn she was in closed because the owner claimed that he couldn't afford to run it any more, then about a month after she left, re-opened.

Wow it takes a really annoying person to make soemone close a business just to be rid of them! She sounds a peach.
Am LOVING your icon btw. My brain feels broked often!
May I friend you please? I will bring sugar cubes for Dawn :-)

I feel ya. There are two other boarders at the barn where I keep my Goob, and they couldn't be more night-and-day. The one knows nothing about horses, and the other knows ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. She always has a comment about what my Goober is eating, drinking, doing, wearing, etc.

Yet, if she would just turn her attention to her horse, she'd see he's a monster who bowls people over and needs worked and some discipline!

Just keep in mind that all horses are different. Don't rush, don't push, and things should be just fine.

I think one of the reasons she's so pissy is she's jealous that I have a hubby, for one, and two, that said hubby is so supportive of me. That, and she's just a grouchy old spinster.

I'm a grouchy old spinster, but I don't give a greater goddamn about other peoples' lives! So you're married- good for you!

"Spinster" was the nicest and only word I could come up with at the time to describe this...individual. "Speshul snowflake" would probably work better.

Ah, I feel your pain, or something like it. Feronia had suspensory surgery last week and when I got her home, my BO -- who is great, and very experienced -- was going on, and on, and ON about how the bandage Feronia has over her incision will cause a bowed tendon. NOT what I need to hear when I am already out of my mind with worry about my horse! The vet surgeon (who developed the particular surgery Feronia had, and has done hundreds of them) emailed me explaining the bandaging technique and that it has NEVER caused a bow, and I passed that on to the BO, and she's calmed down. But, sheeesh!

Thank you! Dawn's doing well and we've moved to lunging her at the walk for about 15 min. Will be adding the trot next week.

That's when I usually smile and nod :D

There are always going to be people that think they know better than you. All you have to do is smile, give them the "Oh that poor thing/Thank you!/Interesting!" and walk away. And then laugh about it later.
I had a 9 year old that's only been on two guided trail rides that she already knew how to ride, already had strong leg muscles and could totally trot and post by herself. So, I smiled, nodded, and let her trot on the lunge. And wouldn't you know princess future brianne goutal looked like a monkey on a golden retriever.
Smileeeee and nooddddddd :)

Yeah, I know, I know. She's blabbed all over the local horse community about me, hubby, my horses and the barn, and thank heaven the people she's blabbed to have the sense to come tell me what's going down rather than me find out secondhand.

It's really sad---this dorkfish's only real life is her horses. They're so utterly consuming I swear if she had to not be around them for a day she'd implode. Heaven forbid YOU HAVE A LIFE outside of your horses!!!
