A question and another horse show!

First the question! I've never had to muzzle a horse before. We opened up the pasture for my older gelding this summer and now that the grass is getting a bit richer again, I want to muzzle him so he doesn't founder (He had grass before but now he has several acres more). at my barn trainer is very easy to work with about muzzles...we actually have too much grass!! Most of the time the horses(that need muzzles) are only out during the day or at night which helps limit their intake. But other than that owners generally just keep a close eye on weight and condition of their horses to determine if they need muzzles on all day or only for half the day. Good luck!

Thanks! I'm not so much worried about the weight.. he can get as fat as he wants (within reason..haha) but I'm worried about founder from too rich grass.

ah ok, we usually just keep the weight low/under control to reduce the risk of all those fun health issues

Of course. He's not obese by any means but he is older and I'd prefer a few extra pounds than him needing a few extra pounds going into winter.
