A bad turnout situation

Aug 06, 2009 11:39

Heyo again. I'm just having a hell of a month with Gali so far. The latest drama is that Gali is being turned out with a just-gelded horse named Silvio against my wishes. Silvio is a 3yo racehorse that is IN LOVE with my horse, in a bad way. He gets him so riled up and chases him around the field so much that in the past, Gali's jumped (about 3ft ( Read more... )

Okay. I don't have any experience with barn owners but I would get your request on paper and give it to the Barn Owners, plus keeping a copy of your request (with date that you gave it to them on it) so that you have a "paper trail" of your requests and whatnot. That way you do have proof of your request in case he does get hurt, if you wanted to pursue legal action then you would have evidence of your request.

But that's the extent of my advice. I hope they figure the turnout situation out.

Can you talk to your barn owner DIRECTLY and voice your concerns DIRECTLY rather than go through your trainer?

One thing to consider--I've done this but hate it--is to put a muzzle on your horse to allow him turnout with the older geldings. If you get a big cage muzzle they can eat and drink as normal through it. I hated to do it when I had to, but I had to do it because the barn owner thought my horse would be mean to the other horses (long story). It allowed him turnout and he was happy, it was just me that was sad.

Good luck. Sounds like a difficult situation to get fixed.... even though the solution is simple!

1) You get ugly as hell with the trainer. She does NOT need to contact the barn owner for that, and it's irresponsible as hell to turn them out together.
2) You can bring up legal action absolutely.
3) I'd recommend you give them a big F-U and find a place that respects your wishes.

Definitely write a letter and get it to your barn owner ASAP! I'd send the same letter to your trainer. Make sure you inform them you have have asked SEVERAL times that your horse not be turned out with Silvio.

I don't know if you should email it or just put it in an envelope in places they check daily... Either way, keep a copy for yourself and write on ALL copies that it was given on X day, 2009 to (barn owner) and (trainer). That way, all of the copies will have who it was given to, the date and if you do have to go to court there will be no question as to when they were informed.

The way I see it, you have two choices. Number one, leave (which is what I'd be doing, because I sure as shit wouldn't be staying in a place that had so little respect for me as a paying client, not to mention my horse's wellbeing and safety).

Number two, speak directly to the owner, if the trainer has failed to resolve the situation. Inform them that you will be holding the barn responsible for any injury caused to your horse from that point onward until the situation is resolved. Put this in writing, have it witnessed (I don't know about over there but in the UK we can have this done at the Post Office) and mail it to them recorded. Be aware that if you take that route, you'd best look for another barn anyway, because you'll probably be given notice, lol.

I have been looking, but I already paid August's board and would have to wait til September to move. I'm worried about the meantime.
