Guessing Age.

Aug 17, 2008 13:49

Hi all.

This is an apparently 14 year old Morgan mare. I am waiting on the seller's registration number to confirm (if she is in fact registered)...but if you had to guess, how old would you say this mare is?

Guess my age for a stuffed elephant! )

She could have also have had a couple babies by the look of her. She dosn't look wormy-her coat is too shiny. Could be fat though!
She has a long back, which leads more easily to having a more of a sway back as they age, so being around 14 is possible.

To add to that comment, she doesn't look even CLOSE to wormy, and I honestly don't think she's "really fat" and if someone told me this was their 14YO mare, I don't think it would really strike me as off. As the above comment above me here says, its possible to likely that she's had a foal or two, which could contribute to the sway in her back, and also, she just has kind of a long back.

So, to me, she looks like an out-of-shape (I don't think she's really fat, but she does have a bit of a hay belly, and could be much fitter) 14YO Morgan mare. Can I ask why the OP thinks she looks wormy, fat, or old? To me, she looks fine (I actually think she's MEGA cute), and with proper work that back would probably lift up some and she'd look great.

She is really cute. I got the impression she was much older because in some other photos, there looks to be obvious graying on her face, in addition to the back looking slightly swayed, which I thought was odd for a 14 year old. My recently gone Morgan didnt start swaying until 25-28 ish..

Anyway, she has never been pregnant and is a full blooded morgan, though a modern one. I got her reggy name and # but the AMHA website doesnt provide a lookup service for some reason -_-

She's adorable! My guess is no worms at all, not with that shiny coat. Morgans do get fat very easily -- and founder can be an issue if they are overfed, so be careful about that. My Morgan mare, who is quite a bit smaller and much more lightly built, gets 3 flakes of hay and a handful of sweet feed (to get her supplements into her), and is in full training -- and needs absolutely nothing more, though she is forever trying to convince us that she's starving!

I'd almost wonder if she might be pregnant, with that belly. Ask the seller if there is any chance she's been exposed to a stallion. But what a lovely, sturdy little horse.

I think she's lovely, too.

I did get her reigstered name and number, but for some reason the AMHA doesn't let you do a pedigree search on their website. Hmm.

Check out allbreedpedigree.com. Her parents might be listed on there.
