just before i got here, i told my dad that i was pretty sure it was going to fuck me up. not necessarily in a bad way, just -- i am both the most obstinate person i know and the most easily influenced, which makes for the worst, most unproductive kind of dichotomy. even when i think the other side of the argument is completely ridiculous, i get it ( Read more... )

You talked to me too! (She says, whining like a five-year-old.) But yeah, this is all super true, and I can't imagine what a culture shock it must be. I'm most def in the self-care/lazy category. :DD: But I so admire how hard you work for everything, and these people definitely shouldn't be dragging you down to someplace you're not comfortable with. (Keeping motivated is SUCH HARD WORK THOUGH, like it just turns my brain to mush. /o\)

i didn't forget! i just wrote this before we talked! <3333

and it's not that you're lazy! it's really about the culture we grow up with. i think if you came to singapore and threw all of that out the window to try and fit into the crazy non-stop cycle that we embrace here, it'd be terrible for your health! unless they really believe in it and want to embrace it, no one should be suckered into a new life philosophy just because those are the new rules where they're living, is basically my point!

And I hate the Asian mentality about work tbh. Self-care is very important; without it it's difficult to survive in this rat race world.

ANYWAY. Seeing your name on my flist makes me gleeface :DDD

only just replying this because i'm stupid and forget about replying my emails if i don't do it right away D:

idk, i guess i see where you're coming from, but really the point of this post was that i don't agree with the american idea of "self-care" because it makes me feel like i'm making excuses, and then i feel guilty, so the asian way is really what works best for me!
