it's only 21 words over 500, so you're good! :D i apologise for getting all word vomit-ty on you lol.

soooo this is sort of my homage to pinocchio, hahaha. i hate that movie SO MUCH but the theme of it has stuck with me, so the basic idea when i started, apart from making sure this lived up to the original story, was the idea of david just wanting to be a real boy. ANYWAY. on with the commentary!

And it shouldn't be -- you never meant for it to go this far. "David--"

"No," he says. "Tell me. I'm not what? Not good enough? Real enough? Him enough?"

When you falter, it's all the answer he needs.

"Dang it," he says, and you clench your jaw. "Sorry, I don't -- oh my gosh, this is awkward."

i really enjoy this bit of dialogue, haha, and this bit of the fic is the bit that pretty much wrote itself. i didn't have to think too much about it; david is hurt and lashing out and pushing for a reaction he knows he doesn't want, but it's what he figures he has coming, after doing something as stupid as developing feelings for someone

the detective is tapping her fingers on the table, muttering under her breath: "so he was most likely alone -- but there were two sets of footprints - no, hang on, he must have doubled back, only he has an alibi for -- oh, of course, brilliant, that's the only logical solution, isn't it?"

tim shakes his head when she glances over at him, because nothing about any of this feels logical (but he doesn't point that out, because she's been like this for ages, while her sidekick watches her with awe in her eyes and a pen in her hand, jotting notes down like any of it makes sense, and tim's resisted the urge to remind them that he's paying for their services by the hour).

"don't ask," her sidekick says, but she's clearly on the cusp of a smile as she slings her jacket over her shoulder and follows the detective out the door, "we'll be expecting that five fifty in cash when we get back with your dognapper, mr. o'grady."
