*huuuuuuug* I don't have anything helpful to say, but I just want you to know that you're not alone. I completely understand. I'm so shit at socializing with new people and getting thrown into situations where I have to do that? UGHHHH. Sometimes I actually get extremely nervous and stressed out just thinking about having to deal with new people in new situations. D: So yep, I don't know how to deal with this either. But I think you're an awesome, strong person and I wish you the best of luck with work. IT'LL BE OVER BEFORE YOU KNOW IT. ♥
i had like a 30 second version of it in my head, just, like how to break the ice or whatever, and i have yet to use it! or--no, i have yet to use it successfully. try try again, though, i guess!
THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE, THOUGH. writing all this down in a notebook and then refining what i have and going off to practice it.
It sounds lame but practising (ie saying your intro out loud) actually does help. That's what I did with my (actual) sales pitch; after a few days of floundering, I drafted something, said it out loud, edited the phrasing if it sounded unnatural and then kept practising. Haha!
Also, another thing I'm learning is that eye contact and a smile can mean EVERYTHING in a conversation with someone new. (I mean, I always knew that... but now I've really seen how effective those elements can be!)
i am not a people person. i am socially awkward. it is incredibly difficult to get me to like you as a person, much less want to try to make you like me back.
I never would have thought this about you, dead serious, cause man - first time we met, there wasn't even a SECOND of awkwardness (at least from my perspective :P). Hell, even the first EMAIL we exchanged, you were like amazingly awesome and social :P
I can understand the dilemma, because hey, you're just a lowly intern, and you don't want to waste people's time. But whats the worst that can happen? They get annoyed at you for two seconds? Its not like you can get fired ;)
You're there to learn and to gain experience. I've found that in these situations, people genuinely like it when you take initiative and ask for work/say hello/ect. It shows that you're enthusiastic and not just there for the credit.liza1131 has a really great idea about the short sales pitch. And if that idea makes you want to shit bricks, find an intermediary. Do you know someone around the office that knows the

baahahhaha, bb, THAT WAS ALL YOU. you were just, like, the most fantastically easy person to hang out with (THERE WAS NO AWKWARDNESS FROM WHERE I WAS SITTING EITHER, WHY DO YOU THINK I WAS ALL I MISS SABINA I AM GOING TO GO CRASH ON HER COUCH) but--you know, yes, i am going to take yours and liza's advice and try to run with it and hopefully not be so awkwardcakes next week and I BELIEVE IT WILL ALL WORK OUT EVENTUALLY, YES I DO
