Not really a response as much as a side comment... a 12 year old cousin recently posted a link to a "100 Best YouTube Memes" video (things like Numa Numa, the kid pretending to wield a lightsaber, etc) and said "I remember when these came out, they're such classics!!!"

Nostalgia, it ain't what it used to be.
