Chuck. Sigh. It seems like they've dumbed it down even more, if that's possible. I think they are trying to make it even more mainstream. This show is so frustrating. I'd really like to be able to totally enjoy it, except they keep putting icky bits in ( Read more... )

I have never watched Glee for the shining example of high school life, but those three guys need someone to tell them NO when they're breaking scripts, I swear (they didn't have a room, save those three EPs last year.)

They should just hire Joss full-time.

Tell me what you're seeing with Castle as far as subjugation of women, I just watched last night (albeit in a room of gabbing, joke cracking folks, sort of irritating) and didn't pick up on that...

I've talked about it before... you can check out my Castle tag if you're really curious.

Basically, it's on multiple levels. The show is written expressly for Castle; the female characters don't have storylines that develop out of who they are (example: in last night's episode, Alexis had a boyfriend... but the only reason the writers put that in was to draw parallels between her relationship & Castle's relationship with Beckett.), but how they service Castle's storylines instead.

And because the show revolves entirely around Castle, the Castle/Beckett relationship is creepily written as if, because Castle and Beckett are interested in each other, Beckett is for Castle. Like, as if she has some sort of obligation to be with him.

Then there's the fact that Castle doesn't respect Beckett professionally, doesn't listen when she gives him an order, breaks the law multiple times by going to crime scenes he shouldn't, and is rude when he's been arrested for murder. And the ongoing thing with the show is that Beckett is apparently ( ... )

Thanks! I do now remember us talking about this before, thanks for repeating your thoughts, it definitely gives me food for thought.

Oh Chuck. I have so many issues with this show. IDEK why I keep watching. I think it's more out of loyalty than anything else. I can't seem to get through an episode without rolling my eyes right out of my head.

In fact, that last sentence applies to Glee too. GOD I HATE RACHEL SO MUCH. If she and Finn would just GO AWAY, I would be so much happier. Although, there's still all the other issues I have with it. What was up with all the Asian racist stuff? I wouldn't've expected something like that from a show like Glee, that's all about equality and shit. Whatevs.

I'm THISCLOSE to disowning all of these shows, actually. I'm even sick of Castle, which is sad because Fillion deserves better. I don't usually get bothered by most of the stuff on Castle and for the most part, it's enjoyable. BUT this stupid Castle/Beckett stuff is making me crazy. NO ONE CARES! I seriously do not know one person who's invested in that relationship. LET IT GO. Why does every show have to have a will-they-won't-they couple? I'm so sick of it.

Because the premise is good and the regular actors are good, and there's moments of hope (before they get crushed ruthlessly).

I don't hate any of the characters on Glee (okay, maybe Emma), but what I really hate is the heavy-handed 'moral of the story' tones which make certain characters out to be the "good" ones or the "right" ones.

It's the geeky genre viewiers who are pretty much watching the show for the Fills that don't like Castle/Beckett. Sadly, the mainstream viewers do want it.

I'm giving Castle til the end of sweeps. There are parts of it I still enjoy, but I'm with you on the treatment of female characters and you know how I feel about them needing Castle to solve every case.

The bit with Alexis in the premiere was mind-numbingly heavy-handed. Seriously, writers?

Though I did take some pleasure in everyone shunning him...
