Chuck. Sigh. It seems like they've dumbed it down even more, if that's possible. I think they are trying to make it even more mainstream. This show is so frustrating. I'd really like to be able to totally enjoy it, except they keep putting icky bits in ( Read more... )

So, I'm watching Glee right now. I'm about 3/4 of the way through, and I like pretty much nothing about this episode so far. Except maybe one line of Brittany's.

Just... ugh. I know Glee isn't meant to be serious, but does it seriously have to insult me in everyway? Sexism, racism (seriously... they failed at making it funny and instead it was just really uncomfortable), just... ugh.

Also, the thing they said at the beginning? About autotune? Totally agree. I understand that some of the cast members *cough*Finn*cough* might need a little help, but no where near the amount they're doing.

I think the problem is that Glee is meant to be serious in parts, which doesn't work with the over-the-top thing they have going everywhere else.

Autotune needs to be fired from the show.

what didn't you like about chuck? i found it mostly ok, not amazing but of course the chuck/casey stuff was good and then linda hamilton was epic.

i'm watching castle now, interested to see how it goes. sucks that you're not interested because the fills is awesome.

glee will be after. sigh. why can't all shows be consistantly awesome.

All the CIA ladies working in the Buy More wearing skin-tight miniskirts & high heels. SLO-MO body shots of Yvonne & Olivia Munn. Chuck needing to save Sarah (and it was very deliberately about saving Sarah, not Casey). Chuck deciding that he can't tell Ellie about the spy stuff 'cause she's pregnant (HOMG, SHE OBVIOUSLY CAN'T HANDLE IT IN THAT DELICATE STATE!!!!).

All the actors on the show are awesome. The writing just sucks.

ah yeah, thats practically male fanservice and its particularly annoying. especially with Sarah's slo-mo stuff GRRR. I admit i was dissapointed that chuck only wanted to save sarah when they really made casey admit his ~feelings~ a bit in this episode.

Lol, yeah, the Casey bits were awesome. :D

Yeah, I agree with you about Glee. The whole episode was really awkward, and was knowingly offensive several times. The ENTIRE Asian storyline was trying to be ~witty with being offensive, and hey, I watch and love Arrested Development which is as knowingly offensive as you can get, but it felt really different coming from a bunch of teenagers on a show that is generally messagey about human rights and discrimination. Having Sue be like that, I think, can be one thing, because we are aware she is full of shit. IDK. It felt weird.

And then to top it all off there was my brother coming in my room when Artie was rapping and making some severely racist comments about not expecting Artie to be a white, geeky boy because he was rapping which put a big damper on the middle of the show for me....

TL;DR I agree with everything you said.

I stopped watching Chuck early last season, and this is why. I have no problem with there being creepily sexist characters; I do have problems with a creepily sexist show and supposedly good characters like Chuck and Morgan constantly being regressed to the way they started off. And I never watched Castle because I can't stand "professional woman but the guy always knows more".

Lol, I assume you're referring to Jeff & Lester. I still have problems with them because it's similar to what you said with the 'supposedly good' characters thing. Like, they nearly always try to justify Jeffster's ickiness by being like, 'it's okay because they're stupid' or 'it's okay because they're cute' or 'it's okay because they're funny'. (e.g. - it's okay that they had a boob cam to film women's chests because the video ended up providing the clue that saved the day!)

I got sucked into Castle because the lead actor & actress are pretty awesome. I stayed because two of the minor characters are pretty awesome. But. Yeah. It's icky.

Yeah, exactly. "Jeff and Lester are creepers and will never live up to their own self-image" is a source of comedy. "Jeff and Lester save the day with their sleaziness and/or get rewarded for it" is off-putting. What really finished it off for me, though, was when post-Anna Morgan suddenly forgot all his growing up and reverted to being just like them, only uncomfortable.

Oh, Anna. ::wistful sigh:: Don't even get me started on Anna!

Glee has to be the most unevenly written show ever. It's got fantastic moments of absolute brilliance, and then the rest of the time, makes you want to stab them all in the eye. But, it was worth it just for the commercial of Betty White telling Kristen Bell and Jamie Lee Curtis that Glee Club was for losers. I mean, what?

Well, that, and Shue being all, "Wait.... kids don't like it when I rap??"

Lol, I don't watch the commercials! Apparently I am missing out...

I was not-so-fond of that whole, like, meta bit, but the Shue bit was the funniest.
