Octavia Butler is one of the giants in SF, but I'm a little ashamed to admit it, and a little confused as to why, but I've never read any of her novels, even though I've really enjoyed the few short stories of hers that I've read.

Well, I've finally rectified that situation. I just finished The Parable of the Sower. Wow. Very, very good. I can see ( Read more... )

I really liked that book, and the follow up. Her system of spirituality in that book really resonates for me!

I definitely want to pick up the sequel. And yeah, I liked her system of spirituality as well.

Thanks, I'm adding that to my list. Speaking of which, I'm on the last of my current stack (Anathem, which I'm having real trouble making myself really start reading.. stuck on page 15ish), so I could use some new recommendations, if any have really stood out lately. :)

(I made my mom read Couch and she loved it, and she's currently loving the Old Man's War books, as well.)

I really got into Anathem. It did take a bit to get going, but once it got started, I enjoyed it.

Ariel was good.

Swordspoint was good as well.

If you like spy novels/thrillers A Gentleman's Game is good.

That's about all that's really standing out for me right now.

Susan just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and said it was good. I'm putting it in my queue to read soon.

Also adding it to the list. I loved Imago, which I read for a class, but I don't think I've gotten around to reading any of her other work.
