It's hard to ignore the itch to go through the rabbit hole again. Sure, she didn't exactly like going over there, but well...She had to try, right? And maybe speak to the new Queen in person...

So every day she walks a little closer to where the hole was, afraid but curious.

She's on one of these walks when she spots Poland. It's been a while since they've talked, so she gives him a little wave. "Hey. Long time, no see."

She feels like she's blushing, which is strange.

"I don't exactly belong to America, but yeah, I'm American. Geez."

He waves a hand flippantly, unconcerned with the distinctions. "You're like, one of his people. That's what I meant!"

"Well, there's more to me than just that..."

Huff.

"And I'm not just sayin' it because of my country, okay? It's just more fair."

"It's like, a kind of neat idea," he conceded. "I still kinda don't see what people from your time have against kings, though. I've had a ton of really awesome bosses who inherited their positions..."

Beiste figures this is because he's Poland and not Russia or something.

"Well, some kings weren't so great."

"Well... mine are. Maybe you guys just like, crowned the wrong sort of people!"

...Not that this reflects much on Alice either way.

Beiste might have to do some research now. And it is all Poland's fault.

"Well, we should keep an eye on her either way."

Well, so far, Poland's had a few monarchs who were weak or unpopular, but none who he really felt the need to totally get rid of. Certainly not enough so to try and end the system, or even the ruling dynasty.

"I guess? She like, hasn't really done anything weird that I know of, though, so far."

Nope. But that didn't mean much, really.

"She's a kid. Let's just hope she doesn't ban baths or somethin'."

"Well, like, Jadwiga was younger when she became my boss, and she totally didn't pull any stuff like that?"

"I guess kids back then were more well mannered."

"I think we'll like, just have to see how it turns out. It didn't really seem like that weird a decision to me, though!"

"You might wanna read up on some of the history that comes after you. You'll probably be surprised."

Pause.

"But if you see anything about Germany, just, uh, ignore it."

Can't have more people looking themselves up.

Poland turns cold.

"I already know about that," he said, expressionless. The Major told him, not long after he came here; the library and a few awkward conversations with Germany confirmed it.
