and it so happens we have a huge sheet of plexi at our house, if we have something to cut it with.

i cut plexi with a band saw in a class once. if you have any kind of jigsaw type cutting tool it should be easy enough. probably want to sand the edges, you can get them super smooth if you work down through the grits.

Spend $20 at home depot on a 2 bulb fluorescent shop light. Invert it and place it in a box under a sheet of colored plexi. Bonus; florescent lights won't get as hot as incandescent.

i like this, though finding the right box to place it in is important because the lights look like hell by themselves.

tape on the back, probably a battery at one end (and easy to add more). if you need a place to build/solder, i have all the tools at my studio.

more likely to just run with xmas lights or rope lights given the price differential. but yeah, a strand of any of the above along the inner edge / lip of a tray would work perfectly and cost nothing. hmm. i wanted more ikea links out of this thread ;-)
