Day 12 Mission Post [OPEN/INCOMPLETE]

Kirk was on the bridge yet again, looking tense. When he hadn't gotten a reply the first time, he had started using the communications to attempt to send hailing frequencies towards the planet ( Read more... )

Omar had been working fast to gather any and all information since the first away time didn’t respond to any communications. There was nothing in any of the info to warrant any caution from this peaceful planet. The Intel officer racked his brain thinking of a reason for such a thing to happen. It wouldn’t just be there communicators, every officer knew to check and make sure they worked. It was something planet side that was causing this but what? Omar finish the report and pulled out the disk for the Captain and started to the Officers Lounge. His was the image of calm but on the inside everything was running full speed trying to figure this out ( ... )

"No sign of any bad intentions to the Federation?" Kirk started going through the file on the PADD, seeing with a growing desperation that there wasn't anything to go off of.

No insane Romulans. The planet didn't even register a bond between them and Romulus itself, and there was little to go off of, otherwise, at least for the Captain. Kirk shook his head. "This doesn't make sense."

The second away team could investigate, sure, but Kirk didn't like not knowing anything to expect. "A civil war then?"

Omar nodded and stepped a little closer. “It is something local, in my best guess a civil war.” He reached over to pull up a particular part of his report. “See here,” his eyes scanned the screen. “The planet has a low respect for women. Now I don’t have anything to confirm this but I think the…” Omar thought it out again to make sure there weren’t too many holes in his idea. “…the women maybe rebelling the government and our team got caught in the cross fire.” The Commander scrolled down again a little more. “There have been reports of small and unsuccessful attacks that could be considered terrorist attacks but the general population, mostly high class men, do not seem to think the people, mostly women, responsible for the attacks are much of a threat.” The dark man sighed and stepped away from the Captain. “But then again that is only a theory sir,”

Sulu got his gear ready as soon as he got the message, strapping up and heading towards where the team was gathering. The door opened and he stepped through, catching the end of the report, head tilting to the side.

"You think they are caught in hostilities?" Sulu asked, frowning a little. No wonder they'd asked him to go down.

Let's see the Captain make fun of his fencing now. The thought brought a smile to his face before the idea that their friends were in danger wiped it off again. "Who else are we waiting for, sir?"

The tense silence on the bridge was near-deafening when Scotty stepped out of the turbolift - you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. It didn't take long for him to regret coming up to deliver the results of their impromptu systems-check in person.

"Still no luck, Captain?" he asked rhetorically. "We've turned the comms systems inside out and nothing. Whatever the problem is here, it's not a technical fault." It had been a slim hope that it was merely a breakdown in communications, but they had to consider every possibility.

"No luck, unfortunately." Kirk glanced back at Scotty, knowing that if the genius of a man couldn't figure out a break in communications, that it had to be something to do with the planet itself.

"We're going down. That leaves you in charge. Think you can handle her?" He grinned wide, attempting to break the tension, knowing that of any of his officers Scotty was probably the best to leave in charge of the Enterprise.

For the briefest of moments his expression took on a certain deer-in-headlights quality: he'd never commanded so much as a shuttlecraft. Then almost imperceptibly he straightened and replied, "Aye, captain."

As Chief Engineer, it only seemed right to leave Scotty in charge of the helm. Kirk held his gaze for a moment in an attempt to give him the confidence the older man needed, and nodded with a smirk when the engineer agreed. "Alright." He looked around the room at the few officers and signaled to Sulu and the handful of other officers beaming down on the second party.

"We'll be back. You can count on it."
