MISSION POST: Maros An - Day 48 - Private

Sep 26, 2010 19:57

The other shuttles had already started to lift off by the time Adrian - more out of sheer boredom than dilligence - completed his second round of pre-flight checks. He slouched back into the pilot's seat and propped his feet up on the control console. Flight control was a bitch. He completely understood that they liked to have some time between ( Read more... )

Ko liked going on away missions, but he wished he was doing something more exciting than accompanying the medical team... Although it could be worse: he could be accompanying the negotiating team. Still, he liked the idea of getting off the ship and wandering around a little. He didn't care what the mission was about, really. His duty was to keep the medical team safe from danger, and that's exactly what he would do. He glanced at the two doctors and wondered if they'd be any good in a fight. Vulcans were supposed to be strong, so it was a possibility. It probably didn't matter, though. Ko would protect them. He vaguely hoped he'd get the chance to, even though he knew it was a bad sign if the medical team needed to be protected.

The pilot said it would be another 10 minutes, and he grunted, a little displeased. He didn't like being cooped up in here when there was a planet out there to explore.

Strong, yes. Coordinated, not so much. Reasonably deft with a nerve pinch, though, and if asked, he'd insist that was a legitimate combat tactic. The Vulcan equivalent to the Hippocratic Oath involved a strict vow of pacifism, in any case. Saval appreciated the handy excuse ( ... )

Ko noticed the Vulcan sizing him up out of the corner of his eye; he was always quite attuned to who was paying attention to him. He resisted the urge to grunt in recognition of the scrutiny, as one of his co-workers told him that grunting was an awkward way to say hello in human cultures... Probably in Vulcan cultures as well. He didn't actually know much about Vulcans, except for their supposed strength and apparent reluctance to use it.

It surprised him a little when the Doctor actually turned towards him further and introduced himself. Most people on the ship just left him alone. He nodded in greeting, trying to be polite. "Lieutenant Ko. Just Ko's fine." He still found it a little odd when people called him lieutenant.

He'd chosen to opt out of the lovely little cloud of awkward hanging over the away team, concentrating on yet another round of pre-flight checks. Still. Awkward had a way of getting around. It was something of a relief when the permission to take off finally came through. Adrian turned in his seat to eye the medical contingent; it seemed a bit short-handed...and wasn't the guy with the dreads in security anyway? "Hey, who're we still waiting on?"
