It was too crowded in his normal work station. The other computer scientists were too loud, too obnoxious, and too full of themselves. They insulted everyone, regardless if there was a reason. And then it was all ruined. The quiet was disturbed by the comparably loud sound of the door whooshing open and the footsteps of a skinny guy that Donnie had seen before but hadn't cared enough to learn anything about.

He looked up and frowned at him expectantly. He was in the corner of the room in the far back behind the accelerator. He heard the environmental controls shift the air in the room as if it were hermetically sealed. In many ways, it was.

"Need something?" he finally asked.

But the fact that Pavel had started working on one of those silent machines had been enough to pique Donnie's interest. He felt an illogical ownership to these machines. Quantum mechanics and the tools accompanying the field was like a daughter he only got to see on weekends. He didn't have the opportunity to visit much, but those visits were precious. And if someone else was visiting he did admit to getting a little territorial.

He huffed and got up watching the younger man from the opposite side of the machine he was inspecting.

"Testing?" he asked, fidgeting. "I looked over them when I came in."

Donnie found his hand running over the smooth surface of the machine he was standing near. The console the ensign was on was connected to this machine.
