It was too crowded in his normal work station. The other computer scientists were too loud, too obnoxious, and too full of themselves. They insulted everyone, regardless if there was a reason. They were too quick to get annoyed at fixing little problems that would take less than five minutes. They ignored the fine details.
The particle collision lab had always been a getaway for Donnie during times like these, where social banter and conversation got too much to handle. The labs were kept cool and it reminded Donnie of Brooklyn. The machines sat dormant, quiet belaying their subtle power. Particle generators, collision loops, and quantum observation tools quietly sat in their positions calmly waiting to be used again.
It was clean here, too. Because it wasn't used with high frequency dust was all that ever collected. Nothing was out of place. He hadn't even used the machines here, he hadn't gotten a chance. But he was excited with the potential. His fingers itched for a situation in where it would be necessary, be enough to drive him from his routine.
His routine was currently computer repair and network upkeep. He also had a tendency to help others that asked him questions, though not willingly or forthcoming. And he had a regular schedule doing odd jobs in engineering.
It was a good gig. And right now he was celebrating the quiet, like he'd achieved something. He deserved this, he decided. The cool quiet.
