My snake is all grown up now.

I thought I'd do a snake post, since Niko's fully grown now and I haven't put up pictures of him for more than a year. For anyone that doesn't know, in September 2011 we found a baby snake curled up in the recycling, and I kept it. Because in my family that's often how we end up with pets.
Pictures of snakes.... )

nature is weird!, real life moment, pics, animal planet, why did it have to be snakes?!

Awwwwwwwww! He's so beautiful! Wow, he's grown so much!
I love how he starts out orange with ivory spots and then becomes ivory with orange spots. And the artful shapes he makes when on his log. Thanks for posting an update on him. ^^

It's always fun to look back at old pictures and see how much he's grown. I remember worrying that he'd never be big enough to eat anything bigger than a tiny, tiny mouse and now he can swallow pretty much anything.

But, yes, his pattern has been kind of stretching as he's grown and it's more defined now. He had a little scar on his underside from the very beginning, a shiny broken sort of tint, and that's been growing with him too, not disappearing just getting bigger as his scales have gotten bigger, it's a little weird.

I remember when you found him! So nice that he's doing well. What sort of snake is he?

He's an orange corn snake. And I have grown very attached to him since we found him (though technically he could be a she, you can't really sex snakes unless you know exactly what you're doing.)

I can't believe he got that big either. He was so tiny and see-through when we first found him, and now I have to hold him in both arms!

He's so chunky now, I couldn't think of a good way to describe his size :)

Cute! Here, you see a snake where it shouldn't be you call professional snake wranglers. *g*

I feel like growing up in the English countryside may have gotten me too used to assuming all wild animals can be petted or playfully wrestled :) That's like a terrible survival skill anywhere else.

ETA - except badgers, badgers are terrifying!
