Oh, the ignominy! Still, whoever was Teh Lord was dancing Flatley's choreography, and the ego was still there.

"Welcome to the greatest dance show on earth!"

Heh. I saw Lord of the Dance years ago in Indy. I enjoyed it, but the sound system was poorly set up, and we couldn't understand the narrative. Which probably meant we didn't notice any disjointness b/c there was no joint to begin with.

Saw Riverdace a couple of years ago here and loved it.

So how would you characterize the differences?

Well, Riverdance is a sort of historical narrative of the evolution of this type of dance and its cultural role, whereas Lord of the Dance is based on legend and fantasy. I enjoyed the dancing in both a great deal, but I recall thinking that Lord of the Dance got a bit repetitious after a while.

But it's really been a long time since I saw LotD, plus previous sound system gripe. I'd love to see it again.

I wish I could remember who told me about her stint working at a bookstore cafe where one of the regulars came in for several hours everyday with a big notebook to work on her romance novel about Michael Flatley. The heroine was, of course, the very authoress herself. It's all I can ever think of when I hear about this franchise.

That's what they called on MST3K when they were making fun of that, but I can't remember the rest of the skit.
