The doctors sold some of the genetic material for research and implanted some pre-embryos into different women, possibly resulting in live births. That is just scary. How did the women discover this?
Well, that's interesting. Apparently, someone blew the whistle and it made the news. The regents entered a settlement agreement with the whistleblowers after they were fired, and that included a confidentiality agreement. It wasn't until years later when one of the techs (who had kept a list of all the victims) released said list to a lawyer, who then contacted them, that they were able to sue. The court said that the statute of limitations didn't bar their claim because they had no reason to know that they were among the victims until the lawyer contacted them. When it made the news, the Regents claimed that all the victims would be contacted. Needless to say, they weren't.
I don't know how the case came out, but I wouldn't be surprised if the victims got a whole lotta money.
