Dude, looks like LJ launched comments tracking for paid users! O_o I was just refreshing the flist, and bom! a new link to each post, "Track comments". Now, before we rejoice - I haven't tested it yet. But hey, a new toy that might not suck! :P (Those happy few permanent account holders who've been testing it so far can tell us if it's worth ( Read more... )

Do you have DHCP assigned IP addresses with your provider? They swap IP ranges on me with no notice every year or two. Usually it's to move us to a larger subnet.

Well, there was this mention in the contract about its being dynamically assigned, but in the same time it seemed very fixed. (I mean, written out in the contract was, for me, as good as fixed. It was not a range, just one IP.)

It also seemed more secure to have it fixed? I don't know, it was a good idea at the time. ;)

Usually ISPs have their users on Dynamic IPs that are *mostly* static. It makes things easier if you need to do a major network reconfig, which is normal for a growing network.

Static IPs cost another $10 from my ISP, about a quarter the cost of the service itself. I'll take dynamic even if it means an unscheduled change every 18 months or so.

What exactly does the track comments do, anyway? :D

I'm glad you solved the internet problem! I'm going today to apply for high speed DSL myself ;)

(Hopefully the phone installing doesn't take as long as it does in Romania :D)

It sstalkses, precious! :D (It notifies the stalker user when a new comment has been posted to a post or thread.)

It can also track when someone has posted a new entry (if visible to you), when you someone uploads a new userpic, and they promised more nifty stuff in the Near Future™.

Hurray for broadband! I, too, hope you'll have un-garlic-ed internets soon. :D

This feature will lead to many TOS violations, huh? :D

So do I, thanks! :D

For now, it's enough for me that I have air that I can, you know, breathe :P

Track comment thingie for paid user? Okay I don't have it so are they still in the process of launching it and I just need to wait or is it something that only comes with some styles and stuff?

If you have a custom style that doesn't print all the links, this could be the cause. Do you see the "track this" button if you look at my (or anyone's) userinfo? Or if you look at my LJ, the Track Comments link on each post?

Oops the 'track' link is indeed in my journal, but I always forget that I need to add the whole code directly on the layer sheet if I want to see any new link directly on my entry instead of having to, you know, click on, say, 'comment' where the links will then appear. Am being clear as mud, btw? lol

It's like 'mem' and 'tag', I had to add them 'manually' so that they appeared directly on my main page...
