Dude, looks like LJ launched comments tracking for paid users! O_o I was just refreshing the flist, and bom! a new link to each post, "Track comments". Now, before we rejoice - I haven't tested it yet. But hey, a new toy that might not suck! :P (Those happy few permanent account holders who've been testing it so far can tell us if it's worth bothering with. :P)

We have discovered why I couldn't connect to the internets despite every piece (modem, router etc.) being healthy on its own.
My provider-provided IP had changed. Without any kind of notification! Stupid carbon-based lifeforms that charge money for a quality-deprived customer (dis)service, a pox on both your houses! We* could have danced conga on our heads while pinging and tracerouting and it wouldn't have helped, but luckily the evening tech support was less benighted than the suave noon one, who insisted I double-check my router because surely the problem is on my end, everything's just fiine from theirs.
*My boss came to help me with the troubleshooting, bless her.
