Maxis Taste Dare 002: Freestyle make-over: #2

Aug 22, 2008 17:05

I am now officially trying to give Veronaville a chance. Therefore I decided that I would do a makeover of some Veronaville residents for the second
maxis_taste dare. Since I have lost the ability to do rich text editing of my posts (I really can't figure out why the option has disappeared, the LJ FAQ says it's an issue with FF3, but I use FF2 and I also tested in IE and that didn't have rich text editing, either - any ideas? Anyone?) whatever pictures get into the first edit of the post are what this is going to look like. I am missing one full body shot and 1 face shot, but I don't think either is really necessary to convey the family's makeover. CC list under each picture pair/person.

Meet one of the Capp families from the VV sim bin. Why does Maxis think it's OK to give an established family 20K and practically no kill points? So I furnished the house next door to the Summerdreams (that big one that costs 80K, which now costs 101K), cheated them a bunch of money and they moved in.

To start with, let me get the common CC out of the way. Skintone by me, see my Downloads tag for details. All makeup on Miranda and Goneril by Bruno from MTS2. Eyes by Sarhra, again see my Downloads tag for default set. Default eyebrows by Rensim.

First up we have Miranda. At first I was a big "Gah! What do I do with this??? She has no lips!" In the end I decided her hair was fine. I was going to give her a rainbow recolour of a Peggy hair but in the end decided the hair she had was good. I have default replacements for glasses so her sunnies turned out to be a bit wonky. I don't know what the default maker thought they were doing with those. Hence the new sunnies.

Miranda starts out wearing that sort of goth-ish outfit from the basegame. Which I will forever think of as "the Melody Tinker dress". That had to go and was promptly replaced by this little number from Teen Style Stuff. I love this outfit! And Miranda looks really cool now, as opposed to try-hard like she did before. The outfit somehow works on Melody but didn't on Miranda.

Here's Desdemona. I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of playing what was supposed to be one of the "normal" families in the neighborhood with a full time fairy on the lot. Ponytails by Rose. Dress by Maxis. She still looks hyper-feminine but at least she's not a fairy. Unless I check her family tree and find out she's a Summerdream love-child or something...

This is where we come to the missing face shot and missing body shot. I thought I had taken a full body picture of Desdemona, but apparently I was wrong. I lined it up and everything. Obviously my finger slipped and didn't hit the C key. I also didn't take a face shot of Hal for some reason. Probably because I did nothing to him other than change his outfit. He'll get his Gawth Glad Rags back when he turns teen. For now, he's a normal child in all of his Maxisy base game goodness.

Goneril... was an interesting challenge. She has even less lips than Miranda. Ariel on the other hand is a little cutie. She appears to have some future sharp nose issues with which to delight me but otherwise she's a little sweetie. Not a full-face shot of her because I wanted to show off her hair.

Hair on Goneril by Rose, hair on Ariel by Coolsims.

OMG I love these toddler dresses! I think they're from FT. Ariel crawled outside and played in a rain puddle as soon as her makeover was finished. She wasn't even that bored and she had toys available inside. I foresee much *head desk* and *facepalm* from me while playing this kid. But she sure is cute! Reminds me quite a bit of the gender reversed Beau Broke, actually.

A full body shot of Goneril. I didn't think her original dress really suited her. A Fortune sim from a rich family wearing a peek-a-boob dress just didn't sit well with me. I think she now looks professional and successful. Can't wait to see her in the clown outfit when she finally gets into the entertainment career track for her LTW!

And finally we get to my favourite makeover in the family. Albany looks like Vidcund Curious, only with a more square chin and slightly less frightening eyebrows. I have a soft spot for Vidcund and seeing Albany's resemblance to him just made me melt.

The smoking jacket wasn't quite right for a man trying to become the Education Minister. And the cap and mo just made him look old. So we now have a more youthful, happening Albany Capp. Still respectable but not so stuffy. And CC free.

So there you have it. One of the Capp families from the bin. I'm going to move them all in and play each family for 24 sim!hours. We'll see how my VV phobia fares...
