I felt the opening scenes were pleasingly remenicent of Brotherhood of the Wolf (Stylish and French. I'd recomend it) I've encountered the 'mad science' bit of this plot before, in a trashy but enjoyable sci-fi book I got out of the library. I can't remember the title, author, cover art or the names or the protagonists. As such, I'm utterly unable to provide evidence of this. But I think we are here for the storytelling, not the originality narrative.
