I reckon Rory has such empathy for them because he spent 2000 years being plastic. Also, there may well be a 'genesis of the autons' plot going on here.

I think Amy's lack of empathy was shoddy scriptwork needed to push the plot along. It appears from confidential she was supposed to be a bit jealous/possesive. Just came over has her not liking the gangers for being make of goo.

Also: we are being attacked by newly conscious bio tech! Lets go hide in the place it all comes from! I'm glad they aren't my party.
