Twenty odd years ago I got allergic to chocolate and had to stick to carob. Problem was, nobody had worked out how to make carob into edible chocolate, they put lecithin in the same as they do with proper chocolate, but somehow the carob and lecithin combination endeding up as dense, stale, greasy ick with a nasty aftertaste. Sounds like somebody dug out the old recipes and made it again... *shudder*
Carob powder is a reasonable subsitiute for cocoa, however.
Hello! I'm ephrael and redhillian's sister-in-law to be, Soundbites is indeed one of our favourite places in Derby too, so they directed me here to warn me against the rank chocolate. I'm very grateful to not need to waste £2.50, I can imagine being encouraged into buying it the same way you were as we buy a fair amount of all their chocolate products too! Carob is definitely not good, I stick with rice-milk chocolate and the chocolate beans. They had some relatively new brownies in last time I was in as well, they're not quite what I expect from a brownie (very thin, so no room for squidge) but taste lovely, if you need something to regain your trust.
This may be a bit too much Soundbites chocolate talk from a complete stranger, but it seemed rude to come and eavesdrop and not say!

I don't believe you.
But I'll go and eat some of the Cadbury's Double Chocolate I have and dedicate it to you.
