I'm almost sorry I read that. I think someone else pointed to it but I didn't look at it there. I'm sorry that in order to be a 'feminist' you also have to be anti-men. I hate the way that that kind of radical feminism brands me as a weakling because I like men and like having sex with them. Thank goodness most people don't think like that or the species would die out.
Having said that though, maybe it's nort such a bad idea...
Erm... in what way is boxing demeaning? It's about as pure, in its most real form, a sport as you can get - two combatants testing their physical prowess, skill, agility and stamina.
It's heavily regulated, and appropriately managed at both a local and international level. At an amateur level, the coaching, facilities and training is outstanding across the world. In this day and age, the risk to health is minimal - advances in glove technology, medical techniques and the money involved mean people are in the sport for a shorter time, suffer less damage in the ring and are, at anything other than journeyman pro- level, are handsomely rewarded for their athletic ability.
I'm absolutely dumbfounded as to how you can equate boxing to prostitution on any level, even the superficial, Ni. One's an illegal, exploitative act of sexual abuse. The other's a legistlated, regulated, universally recognised and regarded sport. You may as well equate prostitution with fencing.
My argument is that prostitution needs to be every bit as legislated and regulated as boxing. The advances in glove technology and medical techniques are great, there's no denying that, so imagine all the techniques and technology that would be developed to protect prostitutes if they, too, were subject to regulation.
Giving it some thought, I think part of the reason I think boxing's exploitative is that I know boys at work who are literally addicted to the physical training, to the extent that if they miss their five hours, they will snap and sulk and dry-retch. That's the image I have of boxing, young men drinking strange powder-drinks and taking out the testosterone backlash on their co-workers.
I read part of this.. and decided I'd not read more as it made me angry. You can find any standpoint if you want to within any given piece of writing. You could argue that Joss Whedon is actually a man hating feminist if you look hard enough at his work with a skewed enough lense...
That's wierd cos I think of having sex as being rather like a game of golf.
I wear silly costumes and I rarely have the energy to do all 18 holes.
It would be better if it were more like snooker... as 18 seems like a terribly large number - however I'm not sure where the potting of balls can be equated to sex.

As for prostitution... it should be regulated.
