Now, I suspect this LJ would think me pro-prostitution, because I regard prostitution in the same way I regard boxing.
I hate boxing. I think it's destructive, demeaning, and should have been left in the embers of civilisation long since. But I'm pleased it's legal, and would demand it remains so. Why? Because keeping it legal means that boxers can openly seek medical treatment, can report abuses and shine a light on the industry. If it's outlawed, it will just go underground where there's no safety measures.
And it's just the same for prostitution. Someone is going to want to buy sex in the world, and someone is going to either want or have to sell sex. I wish it weren't so, but until it isn't so, let's help those people actually being exploited.
And no, radical feminist idiots, people having sex as part of a loving relationship are not being exploited.
