Soul Bond Story Trend

Soul Bond stories have always been a favorite of mine, but I find a very irritating trend occurring lately.

Story starts off as a soul bond between Harry and Ginny and than part way through the story BAM the bond becomes a threesome with Hermione.

Now if that's your thing, cool, but what irritates me is that the story is posted as a Harry/Ginny

Hear, Hear! I became invested in one of these types not so long ago. The worst part was that the entire act between Ginny and Hermione was so out of character I was unsure if it was HP.

Needless to say I had to abandon it for the unnatural and manipulative nature of Ginny and Hermione. Not to mention I got blasted by writer ;)

I know which one you're talking about. I was tempted to leave a review to that affect as well, but decided not to when I read some of the reviews that were left in regards to feeling mislead by the writer.

Harry, Ginny and Hermione were cartoonish and shallow at best and completely out of character. It was a shame, because the initial creation of the bond was original and unique and a story I would have enjoyed had it not turned into the, well I don't even know what to call it, but it was horrid.

Yes, horrid is a great word for it and if I may say so insulting to the characters and the fans.

Ironic, how just this evening another story I thought had potential for a soul bond went belly up with the addition of Hermione. This one at the age of six or something with Ginny as his soul mate and Hermione as his true love. For the love of Merlin people! OK that was my rant ;)

That's a tough one, only because some of my favorites are WIP's and have not been updated in eons.

However, two come to mind:

Harry Potter and Choices by _kb_ http://www.siye.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=11914 It's complete, well written and is referred to a as 'Love Bond.'

Well the one that pretty much started it all was Harry Potter and Fate's Debt by Intromit. It's abandoned at this point, but still worth reading. It's re-edited on SIYE but further along on fanfiction.net

There is another one going on at the moment called Bonds of Blood, though I recommend it with a caveat; it has some eye rolling moments, in my opinion. It's not perfect, but relatively good. The good news is that he updates every Saturday.
