Soul Bond stories have always been a favorite of mine, but I find a very irritating trend occurring lately.
Story starts off as a soul bond between Harry and Ginny and than part way through the story BAM the bond becomes a threesome with Hermione.
Now if that's your thing, cool, but what irritates me is that the story is posted as a Harry/Ginny pairing, which is my preferred OTP. If you're going to write a three-way bond, fantastic, there seem to be quite a few readers out there that enjoy the threesome or multi-bond stories, I don't happen to be one of them, but fine there's something for every one out there. But please for the love of all that is holy let me know so that I can skip the story all together. I become vested in the plot-line only to be blindsided by an additional bond, and it's usually done in the most ridiculously random and unrealistic way.
It's disingenuous and irritating to say the least. Let's say you changed your mind along the way and wanted to write a three-way or multi-bond story, give the reader some warning at least. Then the writer gets irritated with readers for pointing out the fact they they felt that the writer mislead them.
Maybe it's me but a soul bond sorta loses it's appeal when it's a three-way or multi-bond. The couple is bonded, they are soul mates, how much soul can one person share anyway, for crying out loud. Makes me feel that the story is being written by a hormonal thirteen year old boy.
Sorry, for the rant, but I really needed to get that one off my chest.
